Re: plugin with binaries

Andreas Neumann-4

Hi Paolo,

What do you do in such cases when you unpublish a plugin?

Do you inform the plugin author and attempt to find a solution - or just unpublish it?

Obviously, that author put efforts into the plugin - maybe (s)he was aware of the restriction not to include binaries or not. In any case I think it deserves a discussion and our support to find a solution so this plugin can be continued to be distributed.

Wincan is - as far as I understand - a widely used software in waste water management, asset managemente and sewer inspection. I think it would be good to have such integration plugins. It can only help to strengthen QGIS as a software to document infrastructure.

I'd like to see more of such plugins - but we need to find a solution about these binaries.

Greetings,

Andreas

I guess this resurfaces the last discussion from the Australian plugin. I don’t see any mention of no binaries allowed in the above page. I think we should make the rules of the road clear(er) to developers so that they can understand how to be a ‘good citizen’.

I wonder if in the plugin manager we could not add some ’supported platforms’ flags that can indicate which platforms a plugin will run on (though I agree we should strongly encourage cross platform plugins).

Regards

Tim

Agreed. It's implicit in:

The plugin metadata contains a link to the source code, an issue tracker
and a license
The plugin license is compatible with the GPLv2 or later (more
information about licensing)
Respect the licenses by libraries and other resources that your plugin uses

but better be explicit, as always.

Thanks for the suggestion - would you mind suggesting a phrase for this,
or adding it yourself?
Cheers.
