ossim-band-merge returns a black image

epifanio
Hi,

I’m trying to use oasis-band-merge on a set of 3 GTiff (Landsat-7  scene)

the data is available here :

to quickly download it:

###
DOWNLOAD_FOLDER=test_landsat
mkdir -p $DOWNLOAD_FOLDER
BASENAME="p011r031_7t19990918_z19_nn"
for BAND in 10 20 30 ; do
    # LANDSAT
    wget --progress=dot:mega "$DATA_URL/ossim_data/${BASENAME}$BAND.tif" \
         --output-document="$DATA_FOLDER/landsat/${BASENAME}$BAND.tif"
done
###

This the command I used to create the RGB image:

/usr/local/bin/ossim-band-merge ossim_pdf -P /usr/local/share/ossim/ossim_preference \
                 p011r031_7t19990918_z19_nn10.tif \
                 p011r031_7t19990918_z19_nn20.tif \
                 p011r031_7t19990918_z19_nn30.tif \
                 rgb.pdf

unfortunately the results looks all black, no matter which writer driver I use. (i tried tiff_strip, jpeg, ossim_pdf, png)
I need a web-friendly format so png/jpeg is what i prefer.

To check my OSSIM installation i tried few other commands, and they seems to work fine.

This what I have so far:

<a href="http://epinux.com/OSSIM Quickstart-test.html" class="">http://epinux.com/OSSIM%20Quickstart-test.html

The only clue I have is that something wrong happen during the band-merge process, because it last few seconds or less (that can’t be possible given the size of the images).

I had the same problem with a fresh OSSIM built from svn as well as from a src build of stable version 1.8.20.

Can you help me to debug this issue?

Thanks for help!

Epifanio.

Hello Massimo:

I’ll have to give it a try.   I wonder if the bit depth was carried forward and it is seeing it as 16 bit instead of 11 so the min max is wrong?   Try running ossim-cmm on the resulting image and see wha the omd file is outputting.

Take care

Garrett

Re: ossim-band-merge returns a black image

Hi Garret :)

this is what i got (this time I also tried to run imager on each band before to compute cmm and band-merge):

cmm on the original bands gives:

band1.max_value: 255
band1.min_value: 1
band1.null_value: 0
number_bands: 1
scalar_type: ossim_uint8

band-merge :

!ossim-band-merge jpeg -P /usr/local/share/ossim/ossim_preference \
                 {DATADIR}/p011r031_7t19990918_z19_nn10.tif \
                 {DATADIR}/p011r031_7t19990918_z19_nn20.tif \
                 {DATADIR}/p011r031_7t19990918_z19_nn30.tif \
                 rgb.jpeg

Output type: jpeg
Input_image[0]: /home/main/notebooks/data/landsat//p011r031_7t19990918_z19_nn10.tif
Input_image[1]: /home/main/notebooks/data/landsat//p011r031_7t19990918_z19_nn20.tif
Input_image[2]: /home/main/notebooks/data/landsat//p011r031_7t19990918_z19_nn30.tif
Output file: rgb.jpeg

cmm on the resulting rgb:

!ossim-cmm rgb.jpeg -P /usr/local/share/ossim/ossim_preference

Processing image file: rgb.jpeg
Computing min/max for entry number: 0
100%

cmm scan for max failed! Using default max.

HI Garrett,

I rebuilt from latest svn and ossim-band-merge works fine now.

Thank you so much for the quick fix!

Cheers,
Massimo.
