examples of geoserver in action?

Houser, Rhonda S

Hi,

I’m having a hard time finding examples online of mapping applications that use GeoServer. If willing, please send me the URLs of your fabulous interactive mapping applications that employ GeoServer. This is for internal purposes- exploring whether we might use it to serve raster data.

Thanks in advance,

Rhonda,

We're using GeoServer with a PostGIS database on Ubuntu and an OpenLayers web application.
We have two pages. One with all features using GWC: http://demo.smartdakscan.nl/gebiedskaart.php
And one with a search screen and getting the features using WFS: http://demo.smartdakscan.nl/zonnekaart.php

It's all in Dutch, but you'll get the idea ;)

With regards,

Paul Meems

Most extensive and developed site here is probably:
data.gns.cri.nz/pbe but free registration is required to access it.
Geoext, Openlayers, geoserver backend.

also in use here:
http://pet.gns.cri.nz/worldMap.jsp
http://www.fred.org.nz/map_frame.jsp

have a geoserver backends. We are slowly in the process of moving from
arcIMS to geoserver.

I would also say that on the web, the user experience is with the client
software not with the geoserver backend. Backends like geoserver should
be invisible. Our PBE application interacts with arcgis, and really any
WMS/WFS server, as well as other kinds of data source (eg TMS).
Theoretically it should only be possible to tell whether webmapping is
going to geoserver by careful examinations of URLs in the net traffic.
If you are trying to decide what backend to use, then the issues have to
be performance, stability, support, and standard conformance.
Client-side software can be independent of that choice.

Many of the layers available through the AuScope Portal are delivered by
GeoServer WFS or WMS:

Rhonda,

http://maps.vic.gov.au/TransMaps/ui/DotmapUI.jsp

Basemap Google
internal layers (Dept. of Transport) from a Geoserver instance
remote layers from Dept. of Sustainability and Environment (different Geoserver)
imagery layers from Dept. of sustainability and Environment (Erdas Image Web Server)
remote layers from Bureau of Meteorology (Smallworld)
The VicGIS frontend is openlayers based.

so, quite a mix of technologies.

Have fun playing around with it

Cheers

Christian

You can select the open source technology you like it GeoServer and others.
