X version, and driver

Don Baird

Recently Fred Limp mentioned  some  X  windows  related  software
issues  that  improved  GRASS  performance  when  running  on  X-
    Terminals:

"On a related note, we have recently  loaded  the  latest
X  driver   for  GRASS as well as loading X11R5.  Both of
these,  individually,   improve   the   performance    of
GRASS.     In  particular   the  new  X  driver for GRASS
improves the speed of the line draws in the vector mode."

Are these the modules you are currently using,  e.g.  X11R5,  and
    the 'new GRASS X driver'?

Yes... depending.

We are set up to let users choose which window manager they like to work
in; Motif (X-Windows), OpenWindows (X-Windows), or Sunview (Sun).
Consequently each uses a different combination of software and drivers.

  Manager                   Core software               Grass Driver
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Motif                     X11 R5                      New Faster XDRIVER
  OpenWindows               X11 R4                      Mixed XDRIVERs
  Sunview                   Sun                         sunview or sun

We can send you the new code for the XDRIVER if you would like it.  I
could just wrap it in a mail file.
