Updating QGIS website to reflect change from Redmine to Github issues

Andreas Neumann-4

Hi,

https://qgis.org/en/site/getinvolved/development/bugreporting.html#qgis-bugreporting still shows outdated information on bug reporting. Is someone planning to work on updating this website?

Andreas

Re: Updating QGIS website to reflect change from Redmine to Github issues

Andreas Neumann-3
Hi Marco,

Thanks for this commit - but I think it doesn't cover all the changes:

The text still mentions Redmine, and I think the "Steps to create a report" also changed substantially (so much that I fear I don't know everything - e.g. there are no categories anymore, not sure about Priority, etc.) We also need to explain how to use and assign labels, etc.

Personally, I don't know enough how the Github issues are really managed and organized, but I think the text needs to explain that a bit.

Also, we cannot assume that the average QGIS user is familar with Github at all. We probably need to explain how to create an account on Github, etc.

https://www.qgis.org/en/site/getinvolved/development/bugreporting.html#reporting-issues-on-qgis-applications - about the creation of OSGeo login is also outdated information - since that doesn't really help for reporting issues on Github.

Thanks, Andreas I misread your mail. I'll take care of it Friday or next week.

Re: Updating QGIS website to reflect change from Redmine to Github issues

DelazJ
Hi,
I gave it a look last week and the whole chapter needs a review. While doc and website have separated section from application's because of using different infrastructures, now that they all are on github, we should refactor the page and clearly expose them together (what they have in common - eg, creating github account step is already provided in doc and web section) and what actually belongs to applications only (I'm refering to the section about backtrace).
About the steps to report issue, other than advising to fill the templates as best as possible, I'm not sure we could/should do more on that page since a simple reporter has no power on github (afaict): labeling, milestones and tagging are doable by (only?) maintainers or teammates. And the templates are rather verbose on the repositories to help newcomers (and not describing them allows us to update them if needed, without having to fix the website).

Thanks for the offer, Marco.

Regards,
Harrissou
