Sri Lankan CRS in QGIS 2.0.1

Malika Gunawardana
Dear All,

If you haven't notice it yet, please check the Sri Lankan coordinate system  is now available in QGIS 2.0 'Dufour' under projected coordinate systems. (EPSG:5234)

Many thanks to OGP Geomatics committee and QGIS developers to have defined and entered it. Also we have to appreciate the contribution of the gentlemen, Abeyratne, Featherstone and Tantrigoda to have provided them with necessary parameters.

Hope this will make our lives much easier.

Best regards,

Malika Gunawardana.

Malika,
that is great news, thank you to the people involved to make this happen. Did you manage to use it? What OS are you using? Windows?

Because, I just tried on Mac OS X and Linux and I couldn't find it in QGIS. However, I am able to find it in the underlying libraries like PROJ and GDAL so there is an issue with QGIS picking it up. I am talking with one of the QGIS lead dev to try to sort it out.

Also I wanted to make another quick note for other users, there are two Kandawala reference systems [1] [2].
5234 is a projected coordinate system using the Kandawala datum and 4244 is a geographic coordinate system (not projected) using the same datum.

Cheers,

Vivien

Re: Sri Lankan CRS in QGIS 2.0.1

Hi all,
I have got some more information if you are trying to use the Sri Lanka projection 5234 in QGIS 2.0 and you do not see it.
If you are using Windows, it should work right out of the box. If you are using Mac OS or Linux or compiling manually and you don't see the projection right out of the box, it is because QGIS didn't repopulate its projection database (srs.db) automatically when installing the new version (this happened to me, it depends on the installer).
If you are having this issue, to fix it, you should search for a tool call crssync (it should ship with QGIS). Then you run it, and it will re-populate the srs.db with the latest projection that are shipped with the GDAL library you installed (you should have got 1.10).

Let me know if you have any issues and I can help you walk through the steps,

Best,

Vivien
