Releasing GT 8.0 RC2

VT@CSIRO

Hi,

We are currently discussing(a thread on the GS mailing list) on making a release for Geotools 8.0-RC2. Jody have offered to help with the release but it would be great if we can get the privileges we require to help make the release ourself so that in the future we can contribute.

I am trying to work out what access I need to make a Geotools release and the only documentation I found was the following. Can someone please tell me if this is the documentation I should be following?

http://docs.geotools.org/latest/developer/procedures/release.html

To make the release on GeoServer I already have access to Hudson. Right now I will require access to JIRA and Sourceforge.

My Id for both jira and xcircles  is : victortey

Thanks J

As a Jedi would say, "this is not the documentation you're looking for".
I believe there is no documentation for the new approach, but afaik it's pretty similar to the GeoServer ones,
the scripts do pretty much the same things (minus the creation of installers):

(release, release-jira, release-publish)

To make the release on GeoServer I already have access to Hudson. Right now I will require access to JIRA and Sourceforge.

Just made yo release manager in GeoTools on sourceforge. For Jira I don't know, I am admin but it seems the permissions there
are managed via roles, and don't know how to assign you a role...

Cheers

Re: Releasing GT 8.0 RC2

VT@CSIRO

I have created a Jira issue and assigned it to Justin based on feedback (mainly from Jody)

http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOT-4185

In summary; the readme date and documentation version are not updated.

Jody also mentioned about

http://svn.osgeo.org/geotools/tags/8.0-RC2/build/rename.xml

which is suppose to help with the renaming J

We will have to push back the release till tomorrow(hopefully) J Thanks all

Re: Releasing GT 8.0 RC2

Looks like my patch didn’t make it in time for the CITE test. Idid a dry run and http://svn.osgeo.org/geotools/tags/8.0-RC2/docs/common.py  now has 2012 instead of 2011.

http://gridlock.opengeo.org/geotools/release/8.0-RC2/

Please let me know if there are anything else required to be fixed. Thanks J

Re: Releasing GT 8.0 RC2

jody.garnett
That was all my spot checks picked out. Next up ( in the manual procedure ) would be to build the artifacts. And either test the that the source code artifact is complete, or upload it and send an email asking the community to test.

Usually while I wait for those build I write up the blog post announcement - you have access to the blog? Not sure what you want to say about this release - perhaps 'last release from svn"?

Meanwhile, happy to report that the build was successful (OSX 10.6.8,

Re: Releasing GT 8.0 RC2

Justin Deoliveira
Hi Victor,

Sorry, but with the change over to git I think you are going to have some more problems trying to release as I haven't done a run through of the release scripts as of yet. So if i can i would ask you to hold off and i will take the reigns back for this release. Sorry about the inconvenience but with the change over the scripts actually changed quite a bit, and there were a number of changes made on the build server as well.
