QGIS 2.0 Win standalone busted

Nathan Woodrow
Hi all,

It seems that the Windows 2.0 standalone installer is packaged wrong.  It seems to include outdated and removed plugins.  plugin_installer, osm_export, mapserver_export.  None of these work with 2.0 and have been removed from the source not sure why they are showing up in in the final build, or even how.

Can someone please look into this as having all these broken windows builds going out isn't very good.

- Nathan

I have just found out that it does not contain SAGA... I think it was
supposed to be included so it could be called from Processing... Can
anyone confirm this?

This is also my interpretation. I think providing saga in the
standalone package is the only realistic way of having people fully
using Processing.
Thanks.

It's not only the standalone version affected, the OSGEO4W version as well.

No surprising.  The standalne installer is based on OSGEO4W.

Added the dependency in OSGeo4W (which means it will also appear automatically
in the next standalone).

I have run a set of tests on Windows, and here following my notes. It
seems to me that there are not only issue with the processing
framework, but also with the installers itselfs.

I used using a *clean* Windows 7 machine and after testing each
installer I carefully cleaned any trace of qgis by removing registry
keys, installation leftovers anthe .qgis2 folder and cleaning again
with ccleaner.

*) standolone installer 32bit: both grass and saga are not found by
processing regardless the installation path (with spaces or no spaces,
I tested also install in c:\qgis).

When trying to open a GRASS module the error is (in the qgis log)

OGR[3] error 4: Unable to open
C:/PROGRA~1/QGISDU~1/apps/qgis/./python/plugins\processing\tests\data\points.shp
or C:/PROGRA~1/QGISDU~1/apps/qgis/./python/plugins\processing\tests\data\points.SHP.

I noticed also that:

this installer install the software in "program file" and not in
"program files(x86)" as expected for a 32bit program in a 64bit
Windows.

When configuring processing the qgis log shows this

"edit: editing failed"

I tried to manually set/escape the GRASS paths in processing at no avail.

*) standalone installer 64bit: saga is not found by processing. GRASS
is found, modules run but at the end they return errors.

The error (in the qgis log) is

OGR[3] error 4: Unable to open
C:/PROGRA~1/QGISDU~1/apps/qgis/./python/plugins\processing\tests\data\points.shp
or C:/PROGRA~1/QGISDU~1/apps/qgis/./python/plugins\processing\tests\data\points.SHP.

and this "points.shp" has nothing to do with the module being run.

Please note that the same GRASS modules with the same inputs works ok
with qgis installed with osgeo4w (see below).

QGIS installed with this installer now gives an error when launching.
See this image

https://www.dropbox.com/s/h0pitcgcxpzg3mb/Capture.JPG

It does NOT give the "edit: editing failed" error when configuring processing.

*) osgeo4w 64bit installer:

on start qgis gives the same error given by the 64 bit standalone
installer (see above).

Saga works. GRASS modules run but they return an error (see above).

I noticed also that this osgeo4w installer does not automatically
selects the dependencies and that it is not possible to install from a
local folder as it enters in a loop and does not allow to see the last
dialog, the one with the install/finish button.

*) osgeo4w installer:

I see the

"edit: editing failed"

message when configuring processing, but overall it seems that
everything is ok, saga and grass do run as expected.grass modules are
running and returning results (with the same modules and inputs, the
standalone installers and the osgeo4w64 don't).

*) osgeo4w 32bit experimental installer

same as osgeo4w installer.

That is a layer that is used to run a test, to check that GRASS and
SAGA are installed. Maybe when the data is in a path with blank spaces
(as this case, since that data is in the Processing folder), GRASS
doesn't like it?

Re: QGIS 2.0 Win standalone busted

I had a closer look at the problem with GRASS and the 64 bit installer
(which I guess ight be the same in other installers that do not work
correctly). It passes the test fine (the test that uses the points.shp
file), so it lets you get to the dialog. Vector operations (like the
test one) work fine, but rasters do not. Processing calls GRASS
correctly and detects the path without problems, but then GRASS
complains that "It was not possible to load GDAL library".

Giovanni, your problems are with raster layers as well, i guess, since
you can open the dialogs (meaning that vector modules run fine)

Is this a packaging problem? I have no idea about how to fix this...
Any GRASS (or packaging) expert can tell us why GRASS cannot load GDAL

Thanks!

I tested again installing qgis standalone 64 bit in c:\qgis, the path
to data does not have spaces and the result is the same. I tested
raster and vector modules, and the very same operations with the same
outputs o work in qgis 2.0 installed with osgeo4w (32 bit).

I confirm that with rasters the message

"It was not possible to load GDAL library"

shows in the log.

On the other hand vector operations do not always run ok. For example
I can't get a dissolve done, and the same operation with the same
input is ok in qgis installed with osgeo4w.

also the "Add Delimited Text" tool still shows in the plugins (with
the old icon) and when activated crashes qgis.

See

http://hub.qgis.org/issues/8635

Considering also the issues with processing in the standalone
installers, and the error message that shows in 64 bit installers

https://www.dropbox.com/s/h0pitcgcxpzg3mb/Capture.JPG

I really hope there is room for new updated installers.

and found another issue that affects only the standalone installer

http://hub.qgis.org/issues/8638

(in this case I tested only the 32bit versions of both the standalone
and osgeo4w installers)
