[MS4W-Users] MS4W version 3.0 (January 17, 2011) what is about other PHP-Extensions?

Evgeni T.
Hallo @all MS4W-User.

I allready downloaded and installed the new release of MS4W version 3.0 and I foud out that the C:\ms4w\Apache\php\ext directory just includes a view php-extension but not the whole amout like in the older versions. Ok, the server was build with the most common extensions like MySQL, SOAP and others. But I just miss a SHMOP, Tidy and also a PDO-Mysql. So is that possible to upgrade the MS4W with this common extensions, so that I can also use them?

Thank you and best regards from Germany.

Evgeni T.

Hello (or Hallo) Evgeni,
I had a similar problem, I missed the exif-Extension in the
ms4w-package, posted a similar question to the mailing-list and filed a
"bug" to http://bugzilla.maptools.org (Bug 2261).

Jeff McKenna was so kind to include exif in the current version of ms4w.
In the meanwhile I used a workaround as described on the
ms4w-installation-docs
(http://www.maptools.org/ms4w/index.phtml?page=README_INSTALL.html#k-installing-the-ms4w-mapserver-binaries-in-other-environments)
and added just the ms4w-php-mapscript-extension to a "normal"
apache-php-installation with enabled exif- (and-all-other) extension.

I will go on with this kind of php-mapscript-installation (although exif
now included), because I think it's the most flexible way to get a
php-mapscript in combination with all other php-extensions without to
compile it on your own.

The only (small) problem was to find matching apache and php-versions.

Viel Erfolg...

Ludwig

Hello Evgeni,

I just want to followup from Ludwig's excellent response.

You will notice that MS4W 3.0 contains many PHP extensions that are
built into PHP and loaded by default, and you can see the full list of
extensions by clicking on the "PHP 5.3.5" link on your localhost page
(http://127.0.0.1/).

If you find that you are missing an extension, as Ludwig mentioned you
should file a ticket in the MS4W bug tracker for each extension:
  - login or create an account at:
http://bugzilla.maptools.org/query.cgi?GoAheadAndLogIn=1
  - then click "Search", and select the "MS4W" product and click Search
to show all existing issues
- if your issue is not already filed, please do the following:
   - click "New"
   - click on "MS4W"
   - fill out the ticket and press "Commit"
  - then you can follow the progress of the ticket, and test and provide
feedback for any changes

If you need a custom build sooner you can always contact me directly.

Thank you for using the MS4W product.

-jeff

[MS4W-Users] MS4W version 3.0 and ecw- files

Bjarne Fagerbakke
Hi,

We have been using ms4w for some years, including ecw- files. The support for ecw- files is removed in version 3.0 due to license issues according to my knowledge.

Is there any news conserning support for ecw- files, or a work around so we can deal with ecw- files in a legal way?

Hello,

Yes ECW support in MS4W was removed in the version 3.0 beta process, due
to the many changes in the licensing.  A history of the ECW/MS4W process
is recorded through the ticket:
http://bugzilla.maptools.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2037 Another recent
discussion of the licensing changes occurred on the GDAL mailing list:
http://osgeo-org.1803224.n2.nabble.com/gdal-dev-ERDAS-ECW-JPEG2000-SDK-v4-1-td5475320.html

With all that said, if you require a custom build of MS4W with ECW
support, and you meet all of those licensing requirements (you can
download the SDK and read the licensing at:
http://www.erdas.com/products/ERDASECWJPEG2000SDK/Downloads.aspx),
please contact me directly and we can move forward with that.

Thanks.
