Imagemosaic no-data pixels problem transparency

peppe
Dear Geoserver Users,
I'm trying to display imagemosaic where image are irregular and near each
other.
Imagemosaic are displayed with a SLD
Images overlap and no transparency is applied

When publish imagemosaic, i set BackgroundValues as -999
If try to set InputTransparentColor or OutputTransparentColor, but I have
exception on geoserver.

I use:
geoserver 2.8.0
apache-tomcat-7.0.57 with java 1.8.0_101 64bit
windows7

My SLD looks like this:

Re: Imagemosaic no-data pixels problem transparency

geowolf
Hi Peppe,
GeoServer 2.8.0 is probably just too old to have a meaningful discuss about it, I'd first recommend to
upgrade to 2.12.x

Since you have data with NODATA embedded, I would suggest to then enable JAI_EXT and let it
handle it without fiddling with background colors, input transparent color and output transparent color
(btw, the last two are colors, they do not make sense if the mosaic is made of scientific data, at least
as far as I know).

JAI_EXT is not enabled by default, you'll have to set up a system variable to kick it on:

Cheers
Andrea

Re: Imagemosaic no-data pixels problem transparency

peppe
Ciao Andrea,
thanks for your response.

I finally update geoserver at 2.12.1 and enabled JAI_EXT

my imagemosaic configuration is:
<http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/file/t219877/configuration.png>

but i have always the same results.
You have other idea can I try?
I don't know if is correct, but can I make transparency in my sld for "NaN"
value?

<http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/file/t219877/identify.png>

Thanks,
Peppe

Deploy GeoServer on Google Cloud Platform (App Engine or Compute Engine)

nicolas
Dear GeoServer users,

We have currently a GIS platform fully installed in a local network with 9 GeoServer VM organized in clusters behind a proxy / load balancer.
It works fine and is quite efficient, but, in order to have a higher availability and to reduce the network bottleneck we would like to migrate to a cloud architecture or better a "mix local + cloud" architecture (to keep some data locally).

We plan to use Google Cloud Platform (seems to be the best quality/price rate for what we need) but we still have many questions and didn't find many discussions about GeoServer in the Cloud, especially with GCP.

For now, our questions concern:
1- App Engine (deploy geoserver and custom apps) vs. Compute Engine (Full VM with all custom products we would need)
=> With Compute Engine, we should be able to replicate our local environment on an Ubuntu VM
=> With App Engine, if it can fit, it seems to be much cheaper and should manage automatically the scaling and load balancing so we can perhaps let Google manage everything about the clustering. It would simpler for admin and cheaper as it would be scaled only depending of the real usage.
But with AppEngine, we are not sure to be able to manage easily the configuration (GeoServer Data Dir location, all XML config files, database access configuration, extensions etc.)
Does someone have any advise ?

2- GeoServer "out of the box" war or custom build ?
For now, we only used the official geoserver builds + extensions installed in lib folder + config.
We are wondering if it would be better to create custom builds with effective configuration and extensions packaged together to upload all in one in AppEngine ?

3- Databases, to replace our local PostGIS DBs, we plan to use Google Cloud SQL with PostgreSQL option (allow PostGIS).
Any recommendations ?
What about the DB access configuration (for now we were using mainly Tomcat Connection Pool with JNDI) from GeoServer DataStores ?

4- For File Data storage (GIS data = image pyramids or few vector files, photo side files linked to features/attributes, config files, and even static files for website) we plan to use Google Cloud Storage, but there are many options and for now, we are not sure what to choose depending of the needs. Any advise ?

For information, we have too many huge datasets (especially for image pyramids) to upload everything on cloud. So at least for the first steps, we plan to keep also local GeoServer(s) close to the data source and publish on the Cloud GeoServers some cascading services to redirect the requests to our local GeoServers. The GWC would be on the Cloud for a faster access but these original heavy datasources would be kept in our local network.

Apart from these questions, if you have any other advise or experience to share that can help us to do the right choices for this cloud migration, we would be very grateful !

Thanks in advance, Regards,
Nicolas

=========================

PS : More information about actual local architecture that we have to partly migrate:
- 3 VM for GeoServer with 3 tomcat instances each => 9 GeoServer instances
- 1 VM for PostGIS containing admin databases (Geoserver Catalog + custom admin data) and vector databases
- 1 VM for our Frontal Web Server (single entry point with public URL) and proxy/load balancer. It contains also web app (static) and our java server (war)

VM OS : Linux Ubuntu 16.04 (8 to 16 Gb RAM - 8 vProc)
AppServer: Tomcat 8.5
Java : Open JDK + Marlin Renderer
GeoServer version 2.11.2 and 2.12.1 for next
GeoServer extensions : Image Pyramid, Monitor, GDal, Authkey (with JDBC Catalog)
WebGIS Client : JS WebApp with OpenLayers 4
Desktop GIS Client : use row WMS/WFS services
IDE : IntelliJ IDEA

By the way, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the GeoServer developers for the quality of the official documentation and a special mention for geo-solutions.it team for the GeoServer training documentation which was very helpful to help us to achieve that architecture.

Below the simplified schema of our actual local platform:

Re: Deploy GeoServer on Google Cloud Platform (App Engine or Compute Engine)

steve.jometho
Hi guys,

Very useful question here, has anyone of you had an experience deploying Geoserver on Google App Engine (for automatic scalability mainly)?

Or at least is it feasible? If yes how would you add the extension and set the GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR and GEOWEBCACHE_CACHE_DIR to point to external File Systems?

Virus-free. www.avast.com

Kind regards,
Steve Omondi

Thanks in advance, Regards,
Nicolas
