Geoserver on FreeBSD 5.3

d.venturini

Hi,

  I’m just installed geoserver on FreeBSD5.3 server + JBoss 4.0.2 + JDK 1.4.2 … but it doesn’t work when I request a WMS_getMapUrl by Geoserver URI Admin Page (demo.do)!

This is the my request capabilities:

<GetCapabilities>

    ….

      <GetMap>

        <Format>image/png</Format>

        <Format>image/svg+xml</Format>

        <Format>image/gif</Format>

        <DCPType>

….

But when I ask WMS_getMapUrl this is the output result:

<ServiceExceptionReport version="1.1.1">

<ServiceException code="">null</ServiceException>

</ServiceExceptionReport>

Thank’s very much for any suggestions…

Davide.

Hrm, not a very helpful error.  Could you turn on Verbose Exceptions in
the web admin interface?  Config -> Server should be the page.  And
report what you get back.  Or even better get the logs for the request.

thanks,

Chris

Do you have JAI installed?  We shouldn't require it any more, but it
looks like we may have not gotten completely rid of the dependancy
(well, I know we didn't, but I had thought it would be able to handle
this.  We have:

 Caused by: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
> 11:20:46,381 INFO  [STDOUT] at java.lang.Class.forName0(Native
> Method)
> 11:20:46,381 INFO  [STDOUT] at
> java.lang.Class.forName(Class.java:141)
> 11:20:46,381 INFO  [STDOUT] at
>

> .java:62)
> 11:20:46,381 INFO  [STDOUT] at
> java.awt.image.BufferedImage.createGraphics(BufferedImage.java:1041)
> 11:20:46,381 INFO  [STDOUT] at

I think JAI is available for at least some of the bsds now.  Though this
also could be some other odd problem  it's tough because this trace
doesn't actually show the name of the class needed.

Looking at the source code in java we have this:

            String nm = (String) java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged
                (new sun.security.action.GetPropertyAction
                 ("java.awt.graphicsenv", null));

            try {
                localEnv =
                    (GraphicsEnvironment) Class.forName(nm).newInstance();

I wonder if the sun.security.action thing is something that the bsd java
doesn't have (since it's sun namespace, not java).  Though I'm pretty
sure people have gotten geoserver running on freebsd before.

Hi,

I had and have geoserver running on FreeBSD 4.11 and 5.4, successfully.
I needed jai only for mapbuilder, as far as I can remember - not sure
about that anymore, sorry. Also I had difficulities with tomcat from
ports, because, I think it's mapbuilder again, I had to start tomcat
headless - see the script below!

Hope, that helps a little,
Ben

see:
http://groups.google.de/groups?q=freebsd+tomcat+headless&start=10&hl=de&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:de-DE:official&selm=1110900287.00258009.1110888608%4010.7.7.3&rnum=11

change /usr/local/etc/rc.de/020.jakarta-tomcat50.sh and use this to
start tomcat instead of tomcat50ctl!

case "$1" in
         start)
                 echo -n ' '
                 truncate -s 0 /var/run/tomcat50.pid
                 chown www:www /var/run/tomcat50.pid
                 chmod 600 /var/run/tomcat50.pid
                 su -f -m www -c "exec
/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat5.0/bin/startup.sh" >/dev/null && echo -n
'tomcat50'
#               su -f -m www -c "exec /usr/local/bin/tomcat50ctl start"
  >/dev/null && echo -n 'tomcat50'
                 ;;
         stop)
                 echo -n ' '
                 chown www:www /var/run/tomcat50.pid
                 chmod 600 /var/run/tomcat50.pid
                 su -f -m www -c "exec
/usr/local/jakarta-tomcat5.0/bin/shutdown.sh" >/dev/null 2>&1 ; echo -n
'tomcat50'
#               su -f -m www -c "exec /usr/local/bin/tomcat50ctl stop"
 >/dev/null 2>&1 ; echo -n 'tomcat50'
                 ;;
         *)
                 echo ""
                 echo "Usage: ${MYSELF} { start | stop }"
                 echo ""
                 exit 64
                 ;;
esac
