[Geomoose-users] Problem using Firefox Page Info to debug Mapfile

Ed Boesenberg, III

I am testing out 2.6 and I am getting a pink screen on a custom layer I loaded.  In the past I was to be able to paste the link from Firefox -> Page Info into another tab and see the MapServer error message.  In my current Firefox (version 13) I am not able to get the MapServer error message instead Firefox asks me to save mapserv.exe somewhere.

Is there a setting in Firefox I need to change to allow me to see the MapServer error message?

Thanks,

Ed

PS

Awhile back I volunteered to help in writing the new documents for GM 2.6.  Life got a little busy after I volunteered and was unable to help.  Sorry for the blank commitment and I hope to help in other ways in the future.

That is your error message.

Either it is a WMS request and it wants to download the error message or, less likely, if none of your local layers are working, it could be mapserv.exe is not recognized as a cgi by the web server.

The first case is caused by the WMS spec sending responses as a wms unique content type instead of as text/xml so the browser isn't aware it in fact could render it.

Re: [Geomoose-users] Problem using Firefox Page Info to debug Mapfile

Brian Fischer
I just experienced this as well.  Can we add something to the MapServer mapfile to return a valid WMS XML error message?  I'm not familiar on how to do this.  This would fix the browser thinking it is an .exe file.

Re: [Geomoose-users] Problem using Firefox Page Info to debug Mapfile

TC Haddad
If you save it as a .xml file and open it you should see that It is actually a valid xml error, the problem is with Apache not recognizing it and instead picking the only recognizable file name out of the URL to name the file with.

It looks as if apache in MS4W is configured with the correct mime types to handle this, so not sure where else to look...

Re: [Geomoose-users] Problem using Firefox Page Info to debug Mapfile

James Klassen-2
In reply to this post by Brian Fischer
The browser doesn't think it is an .exe file.  It thinks it is an application/vnd.ogc.wms_xml file.

You should not change it in the mapfile as that is counter to the wms spec.

But there are work arounds...

http://geographika.co.uk/wms-get-capabilities

Another option is to tell mapserver to return errors in image instead of as xml as part of the request.

Apache isn't sending a name.  The browser is picking the name from the URL.
