GSOC project "Data model for visualizations in gvSIG"

Sai Harsh Tondomker
Dear All,
I am Sai Harsh from Indian Institute of Information Technology Sri City India, I have 2+ year experience using Python and being a honors student in an implementation of algorithmic graph theory, I would like to work on "Data model for visualizations in gvSIG".

I would like to use bokeh and plotly libraries of python.

A user needs to define the location of file, x-axis which header/column, y-axis which header/ column and graph type.

Output graph, chart and much more(depend on function and graph type)

If this sounds interesting I would like to share my project write-up.

Awaiting for a positive response.

Thanks & Regards,
Harsh

Re: GSOC project "Data model for visualizations in gvSIG"

Óscar Martínez

Hi,

We will be glad to hear a proposal from you, but i would like to point two things.

The project "Data model for visualizations in gvSIG" has a different purpose than what you explained. But it's not a problem, you should create a new project based on what you are interested.

The other problem is with the libraries you want to use. I'm pretty sure they have dependencies with numpy, pandas or similar, so they are not compatible with the implementation of Python that we use, Jython 2.7.

Best regards,
Óscar

Re: GSOC project "Data model for visualizations in gvSIG"

Óscar Martínez

Hi,

Yes, a visualization project could be a good project of course, but try to be more specific about how the plugin would work or what features should have, and also, what libraries would you use. If it is about visualizacion, jfreechart it could be a good option because gvSIG already brings its libraries.

gvSIG has a Chart Menu in case you don't know it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVxDcmtvI1g

Thanks for your interest

Best regards,

Óscar

Re: GSOC project "Data model for visualizations in gvSIG"

Sai Harsh Tondomker
Hi,

@Oscar, yes gvSIG supports chart, it was my mistake I should have checked it.
In documentation, chart menu has only four features(pie, bar, XY and temporary), it's limited and I would like to extend it, correct me if I am wrong.
To the best of my knowledge gvGIS doesn't support heat map, graph(It's completely new) and tree map.
I would like to use plotly and jfreechart.

If it sounds good I would like to share implementation details with you.

Awaiting for a positive response.

Thanks and Regards,
Harsh
