GRASS-SVN access

wenzeslaus
Hello,

my name is Vaclav Petras and I'm asking you for the write access to
the main GRASS-SVN repository. I worked on wxIClass and now I start
working at wxGUI part of d.mon. I'm in touch with Martin Landa and
Markus Neteler. I read RFC 2: Legal aspects of code contributions.

Thank you
Vaclav Petras

I know Vaclav Petras from two code sprints, he's doing excellent work
for GRASS already. So far his changes have been committed by
Anna Kratochvílová who has write access.

We state in our procedure that:
"After a period of evaluation, SVN write access may be granted and
is set up in the OSGeo authentication system."

I motion to grant write access already now since Vaclav has
a notable record of contributions in the core GRASS system.

If there are no objections in the next days, I'll set up his account to
the main GRASS SVN repository.

Best
Markus

I know Vaclav very well, he is studying at the CTU in Prague. He is
doing excellent work. I am fully supporting his request for the write
access to the main GRASS SVN repository. As being not a member of
GRASS PSC, it's just my personal opinion.

I join Martin in supporting Vaclav request. At the Community Sprint in
Prague, I have been impressed by how quickly he fixes issues with high
quality code. I'm looking forward to see his valuable contributions in
main GRASS source code.

Best,

Anne

While I can't admit to knowing Vaclav's work well, based on the
recommendations of the other dev's I'd be happy to give my support
to it.

fwiw, even if non-controversial, granting access requires us to record
a formal vote,

RFC1:
"The following issue(s) <b>must</b> have a vote called before a
decision is reached:

- Granting source code repository write access for new developers
...
"

cheers,
Hamish

Sure.
See my other mail for non-active members, so I believe that
a quorum is sufficient.

Scott,

now received.
I have added now your "smitch + mac.com" address to the whitelist
of Mailman grass-psc. You are not subscribed with that address and
all emails from unsubscribed addresses are automatically discarded
as spam, that's why. From now on they will go through.

Yes, as we've been doing it for a long time now, a quorum is fine.
My small point of order was that it sounded a bit like "if we don't hear
from you we'll consider it a tacit 'yes' vote", and that is not much of
a vote at all.

anyway, moving on..

I agree that above is for Addons access, not for core access.
So please ignore above statement.

Right, sorry for having added confusion.
At least I triggered discussion :)

So the call for vote is what counts.

Based on the recommendations by Markus, Martin and Anne, my vote for
Vaclav being granted write access is +0 (mild support).

FWIW, I normally abstain from these votes as I don't think a +1 (support
for the proposal and willingness to support implementation) is technically
the correct vote to give, when I won't be directly involved in any way in
integrating the new committer into the GRASS development team, e.g. by
setting write permissions on the SVN server or peer reviewing code
submissions for the new person being granted access.

But I don't want my +0 vote to be seen as in any way indicating lack of
support for adding the new contributor when everyone else is liberally
dispensing +1s! Hence my usual abstention, to avoid my pedantry
accidentally offending anyone ;)

Thanks Paul.

Here the current state:

Michael Barton: support
Dylan Beaudette: (stepped down from PSC)
Hamish Bowman: support
Massimiliano Cannata: support
Brad Douglas: ?
Paul Kelly: mild support
Helena Mitasova: support
Scott Mitchell: support
Markus Neteler: support
Maciej Sieczka:  (stepped down from PSC)

So, a quorum is more than reached. I'll wait another day but
believe that the vote passed at this point.
