Fwd: Wits Navigation Challenge - Hackathon

Dear All,

This weekend (22-23 April) we are running the Wits Campus Navigation Challenge Hackathon at the Tshimologong Precinct.  The Challenge (sponsored by the Carl & Emily Fuchs Foundation) has asked entrants to come up with ideas that will help people who are either in wheelchairs or are visually impaired to navigate around the Wits Campus. The challenge is supported by the Wits University Disability Rights Unit.

A schedule for the Hackathon is attached.

I am writing to ask for your assistance in inviting technical coaches to volunteer to support the 23 individuals or teams that will be participating in the Hackathon.  The role of these coaches is to offer advice on technical issues to the participants.  Having played this role myself in several Hackathons I can assure you that it is a really fun and fulfilling task. I would appreciate it if you were to ask your colleagues, team members, students, friends ... anyone with tech skills ... to volunteer some time, even if its only an hour or two.

Please ask anyone interested to contact my colleague, Lesley Williams ([hidden email] ), to indicate their availability.  Lesley or someone from her team will communicate directly with volunteers to inform them of detailed arrangements.

Thanks in advance,

Best regards

Barry

Hi
I would also suggest that people look at https://wheelmap.org/en/map/ during the hackathon. It is an accessibility website using OpenStreetMap data.
