Foss4g website

KRUWIALIS Gael
Hello again,

Please find here: http://checksum.be/foss4g , the release 1 of our future website.

Please consider the English version; we need your feedback before making the translation.
From this Sunday we will make the last corrections and translation.

Johan can you give the useful information for the hosting to Marcos and also create one mail address for the contact form.

Hope you like it !

Regards

Gael and mainly, Marcos

Really nice, thanks for the fast job, guys !

Could you maybe take off my email address from the contacts page ?

Some first rapid ideas about things that should probably change:

- I think it would be great if we had a specific contact channel for
sponsors, not only the main info contact. The best would be to have a
contact person with name and contact info. Marc, ISTR that you
volunteered for that, or ?

- I think that the call for papers should be sharpened a bit, with some
information about formats (time, etc) and maybe some clearer guidance
about what we are looking for. Maybe an intro paragraph that is more
precise than just "We are looking for all kinds of participation.".
Also, we should watch out for language: we do not really want people to
submit papers, but rather presentations, or ?

Just a fast reaction after glancing over the web site.

Moritz

Thanks a lot guys, it looks really nice to me !

Just one remark: I get this weird slow page composition effect when
accessing both of the call pages. As it is difficult to explain, here's
a video;

http://tomahawk.ulb.ac.be/moritz/foss4g_be_pagecomposition.ogv

This is using Chromium on Debian testing.

Have a nice day,
Moritz

Thanks !

Sorry, but I have a few more remarks (could the others on the list also
have a look please and check for such things ? - Although I know at
least Dirk and Johan are busy in Como right now... ):

- At this stage IGEAT/ULB or ULB as such have not sponsored anything, so
they shouldn't be mentioned in the footer as a sponsor, nor their logos
be on the page.

- OSGeo-be is not a sponsor, but the organiser of the event, so IMHO it
should not be presented in the same way as the others (logo and mention
as sponsor)

- The facebook link links to the be-OpenGIS-fr event facebook page.
Someone would have to create a foss4g-be event page on facebook and the
link should point there. Otherwise it should just be taken out for now.

I'm really under pressure to finish a paper by the end of the week and
don't have more time to work on this right now...

Moritz

Re: Foss4g website

Maelle Vercauteren

Thank you Marco (and Gael) for your nice work ! I love the web site, I find that the visual is improved!

I have just a few remarks in addition to those of Moritz but they are only small suggestions in following pages:

    Home

Just wondering if the Magritte’s citation shouldn’t be translate for each language e.a.« ceci n'est pas une conférence » → « this is not a lecture” for the English version etc.

For the section “Data & Services” I wonder if it is not better to put “Objectives” with this kind of description: “What about the future of FOSS4G in Belgium?  Community-building and networking around specific Belgian themes?”

    About us

In "FOSS4G Belgian team", I think following sentence is not clear and could be deleted:

« Belgium is as a country divided in at least 3 speaking languages and 3 official languages. »

but we could add a sentence about our mission (underlined text) :

…The active OSGeo community members today are either active in the OSGeo.nl, the OSGeo.fr or in several OSGeo communities.

OSGeo Belgium will act as a bridge between several language communities and cultures, because of it's unique multilingual composition.

    Call for papers

For the “Format of presentations”, we could ask that all slides are in English.

I think after the title “Format of presentations”, we need to add a title “Abstract submission” and move there the last sentence in the new section. Title of the presenting; author’s names and institution; 300 words max.

We probably need to choose a shorted deadline for abstract submission as for example September 19, 2015.

Kinds Regards,

Maë//e

Dear all,

Our Marketing specialist had a quick look at the website and gave some
feedback (see below). Might be too late as it is most probably already
online, but wanted to share with you any way:

1. the actual date of the event is now on in the left hand corner. The
actual date is in grey which is not really readable. I would also put the
date & place far more visible.
2. the social media logo's are missing. I assume that LinkedIn, FB, Twitter
etc. will be used to promote this event --> the logo's should be clearly
visible
3. the text about "After several successful events etc." needs, in my
opinion, to be be placed right under the main title (ceci n'est pas une
conference), and after that add the blocks: registration, call for papers
etc.
4. Ceci n'est pas une conférence --> Nice but we live in a bi-lingual
language so having this only in French is not really optimal
5. the green map as background is rather vague and looks more like an
underwater image then a map
6. Under the green banner 'we thank our sponsors etc. there is yet another
grey are/banner. I would drop the grey banner and put everything (and I
imagine also the logo of the sponsors) in the green banner area

Re: Foss4g website

Oliver May
Hi,

is there a way to get this site online on a good public url like belgium.foss4g.org or foss4g.osgeo.be? (I am owner of osgeo.be so that I can set up)

I am at the foss4g europe conference and have been talking to people about the Belgian event, but for now I can only point them to the wiki page.

cheers,

Oliver

4. Ceci n'est pas une conférence --> Nice but we live in a bi-lingual language so having this only in French is not really optimal 5. the green map as background is rather vague and looks more like an underwater image then a map 6. Under the green banner 'we thank our sponsors etc. there is yet another grey are/banner. I would drop the grey banner and put everything (and I imagine also the logo of the sponsors) in the green banner area

Hello again,

Please find here: http://checksum.be/foss4g , the release 1 of our future website.

Please consider the English version; we need your feedback before making the translation.

What's wrong with

http://foss4g.be

At the moment it just redirects to

http://checksum.be/foss4g/

but as soon as Johan gets back from Como, I hope that this can change.

Hi all,

Website looks great!
I already asked if Geosparc could sponsor, I hope to have an answer soon.

Jeff asked me if he could announce our event on the closing plenary last
week. I told hem he could.

I didn't had access to my mail from there, so I am now catching up ...

Dirk.

Maelle,

Thank you for your feedback,
I agree with your remark about the Magritte's citation.
For Dutch: "Dit is geen conferentie"
