Filter grouping in YSLD

Eugene Podshivalov
Hi all,
It would be nice to have a possibility to group filters in YSLD styles.

For example, if we have a repeating condition (condition1):
- rules:
  - filter: condition1 and condition2
    symbolizers:
    - polygon:
  - filter: condition1 and condition3
    symbolizers:
    - polygon:

then it could be grouped like this
- rules:
  - filter: condition1
      - filter: condition2
        symbolizers:
        - polygon:
      - filter: condition3
        symbolizers:
        - polygon:

Any number grouping levels should be allowed.

Best regards,
Eugene

Re: Filter grouping in YSLD

jody.garnett
YSLD directly mirrors the structure of the SLD standard (using yaml rather than xml). As such I do not feel comfortable adjusting the representation too far from the original.

Can you experiment with YAML define to get the same affect? Rather than repeat "condition 1"?

CSS syntax with filter function returning boolean

László Németh
Hi,

Could anyone help me clarify how to compose a CSS filter with a function returning boolean?
I thought this should be fine, but I get "Expecting Filter Parsing : equalTo(1,1)."

  [equalTo(1,1)] {
    :mark {
      stroke: #e52e2e;
      fill: #ff6c6c;
    }
  };

Thank you,
Laszlo

Re: CSS syntax with filter function returning boolean

geowolf
Hi,
in OGC Filter, and by extension, in SLD and CSS, a function is not a filter, it's an expression.
The filters are the alphanumeric and spatial comparisons. like, between, and the logical combinators.
In order to make that a filter you'll have to write:

[equalTo(1, 1) = true]

Cheers
Andrea

Re: CSS syntax with filter function returning boolean

László Németh
Thank you, Andrea!

Could you also help me understand the following.
I try to add a new function to geoserver. The function I implemented is called properly, however the feature passed to the evaluate function seems to have only 2 properties however the feature should have tens of properties.

I call my function from CSS like this:
label: [npIsL1Splitter()];

And the evalute() is coded as below:

  public <T> T evaluate(Object object, Class<T> context) {
    String isL1;
    if (object instanceof SimpleFeature) {
        isL1 = isL1Splitter((SimpleFeature)object);
    }
    else {
        isL1 = object.getClass().getName();
    }
    return Converters.convert(isL1, context); // convert to requested format
  }

  private String isL1Splitter(SimpleFeature feature) {
    return (Integer.toString(feature.getAttributeCount());
  }

Is there any “lasy” loading of properties?

Regards,
Laszlo

Re: CSS syntax with filter function returning boolean

Yes, only the properties explicitly referenced in the style are loaded from the source data,
so your function will have to have the necessary parameters explicitly listed as call arguments

There is the "property" function that can be used to load properties dynamically, no other way.
For best performance is best to always indicate the properties needed in clear in the style.

Andrea

Re: CSS syntax with filter function returning boolean

László Németh
Should it be referenced in the style anywhere or being argument of the function call?
If it is enough to reference, what is the best practice for a “noop” function to reference all attributes required by the functions of the style?

Thanks. I was wondering how “property" feature function is working. Is it possible to load properties dymanically or at least indicate what propereties are needed for the function to work?

There is the "property" function that can be used to load properties dynamically, no other way.
For best performance is best to always indicate the properties needed in clear in the style.

Cheers
Andrea

Best if it's in the function call, functions should have explicit arguments, not implicit/magical ones.
Support for this kind of magic function could be added, but it requires development in GeoTools
(an interface to mark this type of function, and changes in the code to recognize the case in the style
attribute extraction code).

A similar case (referencing a dynamic property via the "property" function, making attribute resolution not
entirely predictable with static analysis) was added years ago, these two commits might give you some hints:
