Error report I don't understand

DelphineJB
Hello,

I've just uploaded a shapefile created through QuantumGIS on GeoServer. All went smoothly but when I tried to see the layer OpenLayers preview I get this wms file with an error report I don't understand ( I had wms files with error report before but I could make sense of them... this time I failed). I've copied the error report at the end of this email

I saw some other mentions of java.lang.NullPointerException in the archives but it didn't seem to fit what I wanted to do as I only was doing a layer preview not a special request.

                     Thank you for your help,

                                     Delphine

Here is the error report

It seems your in-memory catalog is in a corrupted state, you should probably reload it from disk (server status/reload).
I've seen a few reports of this already, but we haver had an indication of what might cause that state (and it never happened to me personally).
Hopefully someone will find a way to reproduce it reliably so that we can fix it.

Re: Error report I don't understand

DelphineJB
Hello,

I've reloaded the server like you suggested and now I get this error message when I try to preview. (It is worth mentionning that this problem only occurs with this new layer (a csv file converted in shp with Quantum)).

What should I do?

            Thanks,

                  Delphine

It seems that layer configuration is corrupted, its store is not associated to a
workspace?
How did you configure it?

Cheers
Andrea

Re: Error report I don't understand

DelphineJB
It was linked to a workspace but I wonder if something went wrong down the line, I remember having trouble creating it for some reason... I've decided to delete workspace and layer and just try for scratch and it worked!!

So there must have been a bug down the line somewhere, but I can't figure exactly where!! At least it is working now...

Thanks for your help!

Re: Error report I don't understand

Hi Delphine,

I have experienced this probelm many times in below situations.
  1. If you have removed many of the already configured layers.
  2. If you change configuration of workspace/stores (like renaming names of the already configured and working layers)
If I remove and restart the geoserver, this type of problems were solved. I have seen your post but not answered because the method followed by me may not be correct for all.

I have reported this problem and got an answer like the data store folder is unable to write the changes in configuration files. I hope that this was solved in GS 2.1.0 as i didn't get that error anymore even after removing more than 150 layers recently.

Regards,
Hari.

Re: Error report I don't understand

Suftin, Ivan
This actually may or may not be related to an issue I'm currently having and posted to the mailing list on 8/24 and 8/25 titled "Requesting a getFeature, outputFormat of type 'shape-zip', "Failed to process the file name template null"

I wonder if this could be related?

Hi Ivan Suftin,

If it is not related, then i am sorry (please ignore). I was also wondering how you got this reply.
