Compile error

Davelaar, Hilbert
Hi list,

I'm trying to get GeoServer running but when I want to go to http://localhost:8080/geoserver/ I receive a compile error:

HTTP ERROR: 500 Unable+to+compile+class+for+JSP%0A%0AAn+error+occurred+at+line%3A+%2D1+in+the+jsp+file%3A+null%0A%0AGenerated+servlet+error%3A%0A++++%5Bjavac%5D+Compiling+1+source+file%0A%0A%0A

RequestURI=/geoserver/

Powered by Jetty:// <http://jetty.mortbay.org>

Though searching the internet for a solution made clear that I'm not the only one struggling with this problem, my search wasn't fruitful.

Hope someone has the solution for me.

I use Geoserver 1.3.0 RC3 and j2sdk1.4.2_09.

I've set environment variable JAVA_HOME (C:\j2sdk1.4.2_09) and GEOSERVER_HOME (C:\GeoServer).

Kinds regards,
Hilbert Davelaar

Re: Compile error

Hmmm...  The first guess I always give for compile errors is not having
the jdk properly installed, though it sounds like you do.  I guess make
sure that GeoServer is actually using the jdk instead of some random
jre on the path somewhere, perhaps start it up in a different manner
than you're doing now.

Other than that, maybe try rc4?  Perhaps there was some random null
error.  These kinds of errors can be very tricky, since we don't get
typical stack traces, and they're generally weird configuration issues.

best regards,

Chris

RE: Compile error

Hi Chris,

Thx for your answer. The problem is already solved, but don't ask me how! 'Suddenly' it worked, but it didn't occur to me what made the difference. Nevertheless, I can go on discovering the possibilities of GeoServer.

Regards,
Hilbert
