Brochure

Luca Delucchi
Hi everyone,

I just join the marketing committee to help in the new rebranding operations.

Yesterday with Astrid we review the printed brochure and I would like to bring the changes we did and add some comments on some discussed section.

Could someone share with me the Google docs?

Regards
Luca

I modified them, fixing errors and adding comments, could you please
review them?

I also converted the pdf in svg so we can modify ourself everything
and print the new version too...

I will work on these files in the next days to modify them, first I
will fix the errors and later proposing some idea.

It would be great if you could publish the PDFs alongside, but I would
be a little leery of repo bloat if we intend to change them regularly.

It is more that the printable files are big given resolutions involved. If we upload the samples people will print them and they will look bad.

Ok, makes sense. Perhaps we can put them in drive or something? Just
want to make sure people like me who dont have these fonts installed
can see the finished product.

Hi Luca,

Thanks for update and conversion to SVG.

I see that the three points we discussed
during foss4g-europe code sprint have already
been reflected in the updated brochure

a) Have a sub-section for our FOSS4G event
b) Removes names in the credits on page-8 and
only mention marketing committee
c) Attend to minor edits in the brochure

Thanks again.

That's possible, we can replace the embedded image in the SVG XML by a file path, i.e. replace something like this:

<image
  xlink:href="data:image/png;base64,iV...
  .../>

by something like this:

<image
  xlink:href="../some.png"
  .../>

If you are using Inkscape, it will let you select between these two when putting an external image into the document.

The problem is that some programs won't follow these links and simply not show the image. Inkscape seems to handle some paths well and some not, but it can handle the absolute paths with file:// and relative paths without file:// as in the example above. SVG format definition says this can be IRI, so I suppose it can be anything. An example, although in a different context shows relative path to a local file.

Re: Brochure

No - just the community project logo here:

https://github.com/OSGeo/osgeo/tree/master/incubation/community

Projects will need to complete incubation to increase their visibility at OSGeo. OSGeo Live made the change last month.

Incubation is an important process in our foundation and projects
undergoing incubation process need to be appropriately recognized
as such.

It is also important to distinguish graduated projets, projects
that are in incubation and community projects that fall under
either of the categories.

So, I think it is better to continue with our past practice and
have a logo for "OSGeo Project in incubation".

Re: Brochure

Venka we can have this discussion on the incubation list - it is part of the larger what are we doing with projects discussion.

I see no need to promote these projects for work they are not performing.

Re: [Board] Brochure

Fenoy Gerald
In reply to this post by Venkatesh Raghavan-2
Hi everyone,
I would like to support the request from Venka.

Projects are doing the best they can to provide the requested informations to complete the incubation. Sometimes it also happen that we are at some weeks of the validation but it finally never occurs because of one reason or another. Sometimes, it is not directly linked to the project.

So I don’t see any reason to blame or downgrade the projects that are trying to complete their incubation.

I don’t think we should feel bad that some project take long time to incubate as it does not depend only on the project itself but also on the mentor dedication and availability. This may vary over the time and the two are not always in sync.

Best regards,

Gérald Fenoy

Re: Brochure

This thread is now very far afield from the original subject ... But I
second Gerald's comments here. Sometimes it just takes a final push to
get things over the line, and 'downgrading' them or something similar
would just become a stumbling block to that. We should endeavor to
find out why projects are taking so long and offer help, not penalize
them.
