Backup-and-Restore and Resources

Dave Blasby
Hi,

I tried running the backup-and-restore (2.11) community module on a geoserver with GeoGig repositories.

GeoGig uses resources to store the configuration of the geogig repositories.  On the file system they are in "DATA-DIR/geogig/config/repos/"  (a bunch of .xml files).

However, when I run the backup-and-restore, it doesn't back these up (I couldnt find them in the .zip file and I get errors when restoring the catalog because they aren't there).

Am I missing something?

Do I need to add an extension as mentioned here;

Thanks,
Dave

Re: Backup-and-Restore and Resources

Nuno Oliveira-3
Hi,

Backup / Restore relies on interface GeoServerPluginConfigurator [1] to know what configuration files a module need. So unless a certain module implements that interface Backup / Restore module will not do anything. I did a quick check and it seems to me that GeoGig doesn't implement that interface so Backup / Restore will not do anything for that module.

Regarding the documentation page you cited; Backup / Restore provide three extension points:
  1. The interface above (that is not specific to Bakcup / Restore) that allow modules to publish their configuration files.
  2. Interfaces CatalogAdditionalResourcesReader [2] and CatalogAdditionalResourcesWriter [3] that can be used to do some extra work when handling a catalog resource.
  3. Interface GenericTaskletHandler [4] that allows the contribution of a generic task that can do anything [5].

So (unless I miss anything ... I'm not very familiar with the GeoGig module) GeoGig module needs to tell Backup / Restore module which configuration files need to be backup and restored.

Hope it helps.

Regards,

Nuno Oliveira
