2.0.1 installation problems

a.doyle
I followed the instructions here: http://193.43.36.138/administrator/
Dummy_Installation and here http://193.43.36.138/administrator/
exercises/exercise_1

The feedback form works, as does InterMap.

My system is Mac OS X 10.4.4. This is a clean installation of 2.1.0
and I'm using jetty and McKoiDB.

I suspect that I missed a step somewhere along the way. I have an
installation running at http://doyle.dnsalias.org:8081/geonetwork/srv/
en/main.home that seems to be missing a lot of database
initializations. For instance, I can't log in and get a "Table
'APP.Users' was not found." error.

Here are some of the errors I am seeing:

Hi Allan!
It obviously misses something, yes. Could you check the setup.log
located in /geonetwork/setup/ ? It should read like this (ignore the
specific geonetwork path in this log):

_________________________________
=== Setup started ===================================================
Creating McKoi data files in '/Applications/geonetwork2_0_0_6/web/WEB-
INF/db/db.conf' ...
Starting McKoi server...
Ok, McKoi started.
Creating db schema...
Filling db tables...
    Filling table 'Metadata' with data file '/Applications/
geonetwork2_0_0_6/setup/db/Metadata.ddf'
    Filling table 'Users' with data file '/Applications/

    Filling table 'Groups' with data file '/Applications/
geonetwork2_0_0_6/setup/db/Groups.ddf'
    Filling table 'UserGroups' with data file '/Applications/
geonetwork2_0_0_6/setup/db/UserGroups.ddf'
    Filling table 'Operations' with data file '/Applications/
geonetwork2_0_0_6/setup/db/Operations.ddf'
    Skipping table : Help
    Filling table 'Categories' with data file '/Applications/

    Filling table 'MetadataCateg' with data file '/Applications/

    Filling table 'OperationAllowed' with data file '/Applications/
geonetwork2_0_0_6/setup/db/OperationAllowed.ddf'
Almost finished...
Disconnecting...
Stopping McKoi server...
=== Setup ended =====================================================

If that's OK, could you send a fresh jetty.log (in ../jetty/log/)?
Possibly directly to me, depending on its size.
Ciao,
Jeroen

I've actually seen the same problem on two different Windows XP
machines.  Both were clean installs (that is, I'd uninstalled the
previous version before starting the 2.1.0 installation).  I haven't had
time to try installing 2.1.0 over top of 2.0.0 yet.

Re: 2.0.1 installation problems

Jeroen Ticheler-3
Thanks for that report. We will have to check the 2.0.1 installer
than. Can you (all that had this problem) tell me which installer it
was? Not sure, but I think all are affected. We are planning on
making a 2.0.2 release that also includes Java 1.5 compatibility and
GeoRSS for the recent updates (both already in the CVS system).
Ciao,
Jeroen

Here's my java version:
eogeo-00001# which java
/usr/bin/java
eogeo-00001# java -version
java version "1.4.2_09"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_09-232)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2-54, mixed mode)
eogeo-00001#

But I did not set JAVA_HOME, something I had to do for GeoServer.
Should I try again with JAVA_HOME set? On this system, for GeoServer,
I set it to

    /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.4.2/Home

Here are my logs. They look good, actually.

Re: 2.0.1 installation problems

Jeroen Ticheler-3
The Java is correct, no need for the JAVA_HOME as long as java can be
found on the path, and it seems you can.

I think the problem is in the config.xml, specifically in the
resources section. Could you check that and make sure only one
resource is enabled (and that that is the McKoi one :-) )?

It should read:

                <!-- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -->
                <!-- mckoi standalone -->
                <!-- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -->

                <resource enabled="true">
                        <name>main-db</name>
                        <provider>jeeves.resources.dbms.DbmsPool</provider>
                        <config>
                                <user>...{your admin name}...</user>
                                <password>...{your password}...</password>
                                <driver>com.mckoi.JDBCDriver</driver>
                                <url>jdbc:mckoi://localhost/</url>
                                <poolSize>4</poolSize>
                        </config>
                        <activator class="org.fao.geonet.activators.McKoiActivator">
                                <configFile>WEB-INF/db/db.conf</configFile>
                        </activator>
                </resource>

With the other resources disabled.

Ciao,
Jeroen

AWT problem

François-Xavier PRUNAYRE
Hi list, I'd a java exception on X11 and set display when generating
Thumbnails on a linux box.

Problem was solved when adding -Djava.awt.headless=true to the JAVA_OPTS
variable.

JAVA_OPTS="$JAVA_OPTS -Xms256M -Xmx512M -Djava.awt.headless=true"

Hope this could help someone. Francois

Re: 2.0.1 installation problems

In reply to this post by Jeroen Ticheler-3
Hi Allan,
I did in fact log in and noticed that the tables are actually not
created for the McKoi instance (look in the web/WEB-INF/db/data
directory and you will not see files like "021APP_Metadata.koi" (the
same for the other required tables). We will have to check what goes
wrong in the installation process, the logging seems unreliable :-(
Can you try running the 2.0.0 installer in another location with the
same parameters and move the db files into the location I mentioned
above (or install 2.0.1 again on top of 2.0.0? That should be the
quickest for now.
What was the installer you used? You could try using the windows
installer, starting it from the commandline (java -jar ...)
Let me know, off to bake pancakes for the kids now :-)

I've now confirmed that installing 2.0.0 first (clean system - I uninstalled the
previous version), then installing 2.0.1 over top of it resolves the user login
problem - at least on my Windows XP laptop.  The installation of 2.0.1 will
complain about there being an existing DefaultDatabase, but I'm guessing that's
why the logins work.

The installer was the one included in the geonetwork-desktop zip files for 2.0.0
and 2.0.1.

Also, it appears to work with Java 1.5 as long as changes are made to two
stylesheet files - main-page.xsl and search-results.xsl.  The changes are
described in the follow-up to the message at
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=13474398.  I've got more
testing to do to see if any additional Java kinks are lurking in there...

Actually, there is a clue in the logs of my clean reinstall in /usr/
local/geonetwork
The log is in /usr/local/geonetwork/web/WEB-INF/db/log/debug.log

The first set of entries is below. I'm not a SQL person, but my
understanding is that DROP means delete the table. There is a series
of DROPs. Is that normal?
